Interactive Industry Debate & Ask the Chairman by SMS

Who: Informa and Mobileway

Where: 3GSM World Congress 2003 – the largest Mobile Telephony event in the World

What: The Informa Group, one of the world’s leading conference organiser, selected Mobileway’s Fun Suite set of applications to provide interactivity during its large telecoms conferences. Two services were selected: Real-time Industry survey and Ask the Chairman. The launch pad for these services was at the 3GSM World Congress 2003 event, the world’s largest mobile technology show in the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.
> Real-time Industry Survey – More than 4,500 delegates at 3GSM were asked a number of questions set by Informa’s mobile telephony researchers. The questions featured during the 18 conference sessions over four days of the event. The delegates were asked to send back their selected response using SMS and the results were updated in realtime on the large projector screen on the stage. The Real-time survey used M-Vote Mobileway’s voting application that forms part of the Fun Suite. Following the end of the congress, all the results have been posted on the 3GSM World Congress web site to give an incite into true views of the thousands of the international industry representatives present at the Congress.
> Ask the Chairman - Delegates were given the chance to ask questions to the Chairman simply using SMS. Questions were automatically displayed on the screen in front of the Chairman for him to address personally or to ask the current speaker to address. “Ask the Chairman” is based on M-Moderator another component within Mobileway’s Fun Suite of applications.
Also at 3GSM Mobileway ran a competition in parallel with Informa’s services to offer delegates the chance of winning a Microsoft Smartphone by taking part in a 3GSM themed SMS quiz.

Why: The Informa Group is always seeking new ways to keep ahead of the conference game. By selecting Mobileway’s Fun Suite of applications Informa was able to promote interactivity with the 4,500 delegates, and also show the 26,000 attendees to 3GSM how it is keeping ahead of the game by embracing the very latest in Mobile Entertainment applications. Additionally in such a large scale event delegates can often be intimidated to ask questions to the speakers in such a vast auditorium, the “Ask the Chairman” application allows delegates to send in their questions and comments via SMS and retain anonymity.

Outcome: Both services met with great success during the 3GSM World Congress and on the strength of this Informa has selected to repeat the services at all its European Mobile Telephony conferences, including Mobile Entertainment 2003, Global Messaging Expo and Mobile Internet 2003. During the latest event, Mobile Entertainment 2003, the response rate for the Real-time Industry Survey was approaching 100%.
